Barge, Waggoner, Sumner and Cannon, Inc., recently named Brandy Trotter and John Brown its 2017 Dan Barge, Jr. Award of Merit recipient at the firm’s annual employee banquet.

The firm honors these employees that share the same passion and drive that elevates their communities, team, and themselves to make their surroundings better. Recipients are nominated by their peers and selected by the Board of Directors.

Trotter has been a Surveyor in the Land Resources group since 2015 and was nominated for the award for her outstanding performance with 3D Laser Scanning on the Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital Vertical Expansion Project. This physically and emotionally demanding project involved working through the night to keep patient disruption to a minimum and the use of fall protection harnesses and tethers while providing 3D scanning and layout services for elevator shaft construction.

The contractor’s assessment of Trotter’s performance was a factor in her selection for this award, “Every time Brandy walked on the job, she brought the attitude that you want to see in each individual on-site. There was never a time that I asked Brandy to do something that she didn’t immediately handle it. Throughout her time on-site, her knowledge as a surveyor was on display. Brandy was great to have on this project, and I believe she shows the qualities and know how worthy of this award.”

Brown joined the firm in 2005 with a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from the University of Georgia. His distinguished work as lead designer on the newest section of the Tennessee Riverwalk in Chattanooga was celebrated with this award. Brown is a Registered Landscape Architect in Tennessee and in three other states.

This award celebrates Brown’s achievements on the latest section of the Riverwalk opened in 2016, one of the most difficult and complicated projects undertaken by the firm. Brown overcame a myriad of project routing, land ownership, and funding challenges to keep the project moving forward.

Matt Stovall, Business Unit Director of Land Resources, added, “This award-winning project is a significant accomplishment and will allow us to successfully compete with national design firms. John’s dedicated performance, leadership, creativity, and positive attitude as a Barge Waggoner employee were major contributors to the success of the project.”
