Barge and Messer Construction Selected for Excellence in Construction Eagle Award

30 / June / 2021

Barge and our design-build partner Messer Construction Company were selected for the Excellence in Construction Eagle Award by the Associated Builders & Contractors of Ohio Valley for our work on the Process Cooling Tower at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB). The annual award recognizes construction projects and safety programs exemplifying innovation and high quality, honoring the accomplishments of the entire team – contractors, owners, architects, and engineers included.

This project replaces the aging and undersized process condenser water system at WPAFB Building 18 complex. This facility conducts cutting edge propulsion system research for the U.S. Air Force Research Labs (AFRL). The condenser water system is critical to their research operations, allowing them to test new materials, fuels, and engine technologies for our armed forces. Barge’s project team included our Facilities and Site Solutions Business Units.

The project team faced a tight timeline as the research lab could only allow a 12-week window for shutdown of their existing system. This required collaboration between Barge, Messer Construction, and the client to ensure all design and pre-construction packages were complete prior to shut down, allowing for demolishing, building, and inspecting to be completed within the 12-week timeline.

An award gala will be held in March of 2022 in San Antonio, Texas to announce the national winners, selected from the chapter award recipients.
