experienceD TRANSPORTATION DESIGN SPANNING TRANSIT, CONNECTIVITY, AND INFRASTRUCTURE

Roadways

From complex major interstates and intersections to the rehabilitation of rural roadways, bridges, and greenway trails, our team provides comprehensive services to municipalities and state departments of transportation. We bring workable solutions to the table, helping travelers reach their destinations  safely and efficiently. Barge is committed to going beyond the project, actively engaging community conversations about transit, connectivity, and infrastructure for more than 50 years.

Construction Engineering and Inspection (CEI, CE&I)

Our team of construction managers, resident engineers, construction inspectors, and field technicians deliver extensive experience to federal, state, municipal, and private sector construction projects. This includes construction engineering and inspection (CEI) services for a diverse range of transportation projects.  Barge understands the complexities of working with departments of transportation and local governments. We cultivate strong relationships with the contractors who serve them.

Aviation

Barge’s leadership and specialized work in aviation design, planning, and engineering expands over three decades. Providing innovative solutions for airport projects in full-time capacity, our Aviation Group’s experienced engineers, planners, resident project representatives, and support staff and innovative solutions for airport projects of all sizes and scope.

Bridge Engineering

Bridges serve as a vital link in a commuter transportation infrastructure. Our experienced bridge team has connected with municipal, county, state, and federal agencies, and private organizations to fill this important need, focusing on bridge design, repair, inspection, and load rating. Our bridge designers have worked on a wide spectrum of bridge projects including single and multi-span designs, hydraulic and vehicular grade crossings, complete interchanges, fast-paced design-build projects, regular bridge maintenance, inspection, refurbishments, and pedestrian bridges.

As part of our comprehensive bridge design services, Barge specializes in alternative delivery methods to maximize team collaboration, problem-solving, and safety while minimizing timelines and motorist inconvenience.

  • Design-Build Barge and the construction team work under one contract to unify flow of tasks to improve collaboration and problem-solving.
  • Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) Bridge work is completed in two phases – design and construction – and involves the construction manager/general contractor sooner in the process to collaborate with the design team and owner to mitigate risk and identify potential construction issues for a smooth and timely completed project.
  • Value Engineering This systematic, organized approach looks toward cost-effective solutions and alternatives without sacrificing functionality to save time and budget.
  • Accelerated Bridge Construction (ABC) Barge had used ABC design solutions to promote innovative planning, design, materials, and construction methods for rapid bridge replacement. This can include having bridge elements built offsite to maximize onsite build space and multitasking with quick installation once delivered.

Traffic Engineering

Barge’s experience in traffic engineering and intelligent transportation systems (ITS) is extensive, providing solutions to municipalities and state departments of transportation. Full-service capabilities feature traffic engineering studies, transportation planning and analysis, traffic signal system design and analysis, traffic signal timing and coordination, roundabout analysis and design, and ITS planning and design.

Our traffic teams can address the most challenging traffic issues and help manage the massive amounts of traffic data gathered from today’s complex traffic systems. Through design and advanced management systems, Barge helps cities resolve today’s traffic flow issues while using collected data to forecast future transportation planning. As a result, cities are better equipped to maintain and develop transportation infrastructure for the future.
