Ribbon Cutting for Phase 2 of Fletcher Creek Greenway

13 / April / 2021

Barge representatives Russ Brasfield, Mark Donley, and Curtis Underhill recently joined our client, the City of Bartlett, to celebrate the completion of Phase 2 of the Fletcher Creek Greenway. Other attendees included Bartlett’s Parks Director, City Engineer, Assistant City Engineer, Mayor, Administrative Officer, and Fire and Police Department Chiefs.

Barge completed a master planning effort for the entire Fletcher Greenway Trail in 2010, which was then divided into multiple phases. Our team was awarded both Phase 1 and Phase 2. This most recently completed section is the main trunkline trail and meanders along the path of the creek. The roughly .6-mile section includes a pedestrian bridge and connects the Yale Road trailhead (the end of Phase 1) to Madison Arthur Byrd Park and the Burloe Bike Trail. Our scope of work also included signage and landscaping.

When all phases are complete, the trail will be approximately five miles long and will connect several neighborhoods to community resources, such as the 82-acre Bobby K. Flaherty Municipal Center which contains the Bartlett Rec Center, Justice Center, and Performing Arts and Conference Center. The path will also connect to baseball fields, additional trails, a lake, and Appling Middle School.

The Fletcher Creek Greenway weaves into a much larger effort, “Midsouth Green Print,” a land use planning effort in Shelby County and North Mississippi. This project required close coordination with the City of Bartlett Parks and Recreation Department, the City of Bartlett Engineering Department, TDEC, and TDOT Local Programs.
