15 / August / 2023

Barge Design Solutions (Barge), a leading regional engineering and architecture firm, is pleased to announce Francois de Kock, AICP, ASLA, LEED AP, as Director of Landscape Architecture and Planning in the Nashville office. A graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Design, de Kock brings over 20 years of experience in managing projects that involve landscape architecture, urban design, and urban planning.

De Kock joins a team of highly talented Barge professionals dedicated to, and passionate about, the quality and innovation of planning and design work in the built environment. The firm’s portfolio of landscape architecture and planning projects includes the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) award-winning City Walk BHAM in downtown Birmingham, AL, and the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) award-winning EcoCommons: Living Building Sector on Georgia Tech’s campus in Atlanta, GA. The latter project is a performance landscape and passive eight-acre greenspace that follows the original naturally occurring stream paths of the region before the urbanization of the campus.

“From a young age and passionate about art and nature, I knew landscape architecture was what I wanted to do,” said de Kock. “What drives me today is my enthusiasm to improving our communities’ quality of life with creative placemaking, walkability, and access to nature, while protecting and promoting the cultural and natural environment.”

In his position, de Kock will drive strategic growth and provide technical direction to the firm’s landscape architecture and planning practice area. He is a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), a registered professional landscape architect in Texas, and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Accredited Professional.

De Kock continues, saying “My objective is to build upon Barge’s momentum continuing to produce award-winning landscape architecture, urban design, and urban plans throughout the United States. This requires a steadfast focus on the needs of our clients, while continually honing our craft in a collaborative, supportive, and fun environment. When we do that, we will bring Barge’s vision truly to reality.”
