- Update:7/1/2025

Barge has acquired Carlisle Associates, Inc., a Columbia, South Carolina-based firm specializing in architecture, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering. The acquisition expands Barge’s presence in South Carolina and strengthens its capabilities in the growing industrial sector.
Founded in 1977, Carlisle Associates brings nearly five decades of experience in industrial design and a strong track record of delivering projects that meet both immediate and long-term client needs. Known for long-standing client relationships and specialized expertise in complex facilities – such as those involving hazardous materials and specialized utilities – Carlisle’s team has built a reputation for practical, purpose-driven solutions that support performance, efficiency and safety.
“The Carolinas are experiencing strong momentum, particularly in advanced manufacturing, making this a pivotal time for growth,” said Carrie Stokes, CEO and president of Barge. “Carlisle’s strong regional presence and deep technical expertise make them a natural fit as we execute our strategic growth plan. Just as important, they share our employee-focused culture and a legacy of building trusted, long-term partnerships — values that have guided both of our firms for decades.”
The Carlisle Associates team will continue operations in Columbia, South Carolina, under the name "Carlisle Associates, a division of Barge Design Solutions."
“Joining Barge allows us to expand our reach and impact, and tap into broader resources to pursue diversified opportunities and enhance operational efficiencies,” shares Gene Resch, president of Carlisle Associates. “We’re pleased to align ourselves with a firm that is equally committed to delivering the best possible outcomes for clients and shares a similar vision for the industry.”
The acquisition represents more than geographic expansion. It brings together two firms with aligned values and complementary strengths. Together, they are poised to deliver larger, more complex solutions while continuing to provide hands-on, responsive service to clients across the region.
“Carlisle’s almost 50-year history and strong industrial sector relationships in South Carolina significantly strengthen Barge’s existing presence and position us for continued strategic growth in the Carolinas,” said Jason Lowe, SVP, industrial and energy lead at Barge. “With our combined capabilities, we’re equipped to elevate the size, scale, and impact of solutions we bring to market.”
Barge has seen consistent growth across the Southeast through both organic expansion and strategic acquisitions. Its diverse service portfolio spans healthcare, transportation, water and environmental sectors. At the heart of Barge’s success is a people-first culture rooted in collaboration, innovation and lasting client partnerships.
