18 / January / 2019

Chattanooga, Tenn - C. W. Matthews Contracting Company and Barge Design Solutions have been selected as the design-build team for the proposed I-75/I-24 Interchange Modification Project in Chattanooga. The purpose of the project is to increase capacity while improving the safety and operation of the interchange.

Located southeast of downtown Chattanooga and just north of the Georgia state line, the modified I-75 at I-24 Interchange is anticipated to serve just over 100,000 vehicles per day by 2020. The area’s growth is expected to continue with traffic at the interchange reaching nearly 130,000 vehicles per day by 2041.

The project includes the design and construction of 14 bridges, 22 retaining walls, and 7.5 miles of interstate. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2019.

The design-build project delivery method combines all or some portions of the design and construction phases into one contract. This method will expedite delivery of the modified interchange and streamline the design process.
