Because most plans are presented two-dimensionally, a strong background in geometry is needed to visualize solutions three-dimensionally and correctly interpret elevation, slope, and depth. Graduates who can quickly learn and adapt to design software tend to contribute earlier on projects.

Engineers must be able to understand technical concepts and explain them with confidence.
