Engineering
The Challenge
The V.D. Parrott Jr. Water Treatment Plant, constructed in 1963, required significant upgrades due to outdated components and reduced water demand resulting from economic factors, conservation efforts, and industry changes.
The Solution
Dalton Utilities contracted with Barge to develop a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) to modernize the plant. The CIP included three phases of improvements, focusing on disinfection, corrosion control, and overall plant upgrades.
The Result
The CIP has modernized the plant, improved community safety by eliminating chlorine gas, enhanced water quality with a new membrane filtration system, increased capacity to 40 MGD with potential for future expansion, and has made the plant one of the largest membrane filtration water plants in the United States.
