Black Bayou Drainage Study

The Challenge

Black Bayou, a large, 3,000-acre, fully developed urban drainage basin, needed to be surveyed to generate a computer model of the area. The existing system was further evaluated to identify inadequacies, and potential remedies were developed.

The Solution

Barge Design Solutions completed a study of the Black Bayou Drainage Basin as part of a multi-year improvement plan for the City of Memphis stormwater system. By identifying flooding issues within the basin, the team prioritized needs and developed an approach that improved flooding conditions in the area.

The basin survey was performed to meet FEMA standards and was then translated to update the City’s existing data. Economical repair recommendations were presented to the City in a concise and informative report within project time and budget constraints. Suggested improvements were prioritized based on existing conditions and a benefit-cost analysis.

The Barge Factor

Barge Design Solutions tackled the project with impeccable attention to detail, by checking evaluations and making recommendations that were cost-effective and realistic. The team worked diligently to provide an efficient and workable solution.
