Project Scientist II

What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Project Scientist II to join our Environmental & Natural Resources team in either the Atlanta, Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville or offices. In this role, you will provide professional support executing projects by collecting, analyzing, documenting observations and formulating recommendations in order to provide technical reports for various clients. This role spends frequent time in the various field settings performing work.

Responsibilities:

• Assists in writing proposals on assigned projects.
• Collects data from various sources including samples from the field, compiles reports, maps and other documents.
• Leads wetland and stream delineation surveys.
• Leads rare, threatened, and endangered species habitat assessments.
• Assists and submits 401/404 permitting documentation to the USACE and state agencies.
• Evaluates changing conditions in the field providing adjustments to work practices, as appropriate, to satisfy needs of the project. This includes direction for technicians assisting in project work.
• Provides data verification documenting observations from various sources.
• Analyzes data, reports, maps, aerial photographs, and other records as needed identifying trends, concerns and recommending next steps.
• Develops conclusions from observations of multiple sources of data and samples.
• Coordinates and executes field work associated with approved Statement of Work.
• Writes technical reports, or contributes to portions of more challenging technical reports, providing recommendations from conclusions developed from findings.
• May assist in client contact and communication, and attends client meetings.
• Coordination and communication with agencies and other internal stakeholders. This includes environmental and permitting requirements, in addition to other appropriate communication points.
• Performs other duties as requested.

Education & Experience Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from accredited program.
• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Skills:

• Proficiency with GIS and other essential equipment needed for field and office work.
• Practical knowledge of state and federal regulations. Working knowledge of environmental site assessments, wetland delineations, hydrologic determinations, and stream assessments.
• Effectively interact with client and authorities during site work assessments.

Supervision:

• Provides instructions to entry level staff with field work to support project deliverables.
• Identifies changing conditions in the field and makes recommendation for appropriate adjustment.

Other:

• Walk, sit, and stand. Occasionally reach with hands, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Occasionally climb 25-30 feet. Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs. Frequently works in outdoor conditions requiring ability to walk or climb uneven terrain consisting of various changing vegetation, material, and incline on construction sites. Visual acuity sufficient to read alpha/numeric symbols for computation and design.
• Ability to adapt quickly and respond effectively to project issues that arise.
• Requires some travel.
