Mechanical Engineering Associate

What We're Looking For:

Barge Design Solutions is currently seeking to fill the position of Mechanical Engineering Associate to support the design of industrial, mission-critical, and healthcare projects in the Facilities Engineering Solution Center.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with project team members and client representatives to provide a comprehensive set of project design documents.
• Perform building heating and cooling loads using Trane or Carrier load calculation software.
• With guidance from senior engineers, design building HVAC ductwork and piping systems. Prepare engineering calculations and construction documents using computer-assisted engineering software and building modeling software to generate 3D models and biddable 2D plans.
• Assists in the analysis or preparation of engineering reports, specifications, plans, and designs for projects.
• Completes discrete engineering design tasks in the areas of HVAC, plumbing, process piping, and fire protection system design as assigned by senior staff.
• Performs routine manual calculations to support piping and duct system designs for building mechanical systems. Design tasks include calculation of pressure drop for pipe or duct sizing and the subsequent selection of fluid pumps and fans.
• Coordinate with other disciplines including civil, architectural, structural, and electrical engineering to complete detailed, quality designs.
• Participates in project site visits with other project team members as needed to verify existing conditions or to observe construction activities.
• Participates in Construction Administration of projects by reviewing submittals and assisting engineers in responding to requests for information from contractors.

Education & Experience Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
• Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam
• At least 1 year of experience, preferred
• Experience using AutoCAD and/or Revit is preferred
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret job-related manuals and documents
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong interpersonal/communication and teamworking skills
• Experience in building design/construction or related field a plus
