    Survey Field Technician

    Career Area: Geomatics / Land Surveying

    What We're Looking For: 

    Barge Design Solutions is seeking a Survey Field Technician to join our Chattanooga, TN team. This position primarily assists field and/or office surveyors with data processing, traffic control, and operating survey instruments.

    Responsibilities for this role includes:

    • Gathers field survey data using a variety of methods; sets up, adjust, and operate surveying various types of equipment, including electronic total station, data collector to measure distances, elevations, and angles.
    • Drafts maps and drawings for review using CADD.
    • Conducts deed and other project research.
    • Performs field calculations of horizontal and vertical geometry.
    • Retraces or surveys boundary lines under general supervision.
    • Performs calculations for construction stakeout.
    • Provides quality assurance by reviewing field data, reports, and maps.
    • Performs construction layout and staking surveys provides foresights and back sights.
    • Acts as instrument operator for a field survey crew engaged in making plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, right-of-way, and control survey projects.
    • Performs field surveying for various land developments, roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines.
    • Prepares finished grade sheets, topographic maps, records of survey, corner records, and other survey reports.
    • Researches existing record information, including record maps, plans, deeds, easements, and right-of-way documents; and maintain field data records.
    • Performs other duties as required.

     Education & Experience Qualifications: 

    • Two year degree in Engineering Technology, Computer Drafting, Surveying, or equivalent field/office experience. Other relevant combination education and/ or experience may also be considered.
    • Ability to read and understand construction plans. Detail oriented and strong communication skills.
    • Ability to read and interpret plats, deeds, easements and plans.
    • Familiarity of field surveying practices and procedures.
    • Daily work environment includes working out of doors and in rough terrain. Individuals will walk, sit, stand while operating various equipment, tools and machinery. Individuals may need to carry, push, pull, or lift up to 50. Individuals may need to climb to various elevations and requires visual acuity sufficient to read alpha/ numeric symbols and perform computation and design.
    • Valid driver's license and sufficient driving record.
    • Ability to work varying schedules.
    • Ability to travel at times, and overnight
