New TDEC Tool Developed for Stream Assessment
23 / May / 2019
Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation (TDEC) and the United States Army Corps of Engineers have developed a new tool, the Tennessee Stream Quantification Tool (TN SQT), to assess quality and resource value of streams in the state of Tennessee.
The tool is used to quantify the difference in resource functional value of both the existing stream condition and the proposed stream condition. The difference in the proposed condition score and the existing condition score is the amount of “mitigation” that is generated from a proposed mitigation site. The accompanying TN Debit Tool is an assessment tool that is used to quantify the impacts that a permittee will be required to provide compensatory mitigation for a proposed activity.
Though the TN SQT method is not a requirement yet, the proposed TDEC stream mitigation guidelines are expected to be released at any time. Barge is available to successfully assist our clients through the TN SQT process.
