Barge Design Solutions Wins 2018 Regional Impact Award
30 / October / 2018
The Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce recently recognized Barge Design Solutions for its collective focus on regional transportation and mobility. The company was named a Regional Impact Award winner at the Chamber’s Annual Celebration on October 24.
Barge Design Solutions employs 175 people in downtown Nashville. Employees commute from across Middle Tennessee and are faced with congested roadways and extended wait times at intersections. A transit-friendly community that promotes mobility gives Barge Design Solutions the ability to attract top talent and continue to operate a downtown business that began nearly 65 years ago. Nashville’s fullest potential lies behind a cohesive, community-centric transit solution.
The company works with the Tennessee Department of Transportation and municipalities to rehabilitate and design infrastructure that keeps local economies moving. From complex major interstates to the rehabilitation of rural roadways, bridges, and greenway trails, the design team always keeps safety and connectivity top of mind.
Barge Design Solutions believes in a full-team approach to raise awareness for regional transportation and alternative mobility in Middle Tennessee. In 2018, the company provided significant support behind Citizens for Greater Mobility to pass a public referendum for an improved transportation network in Davidson County. But Barge Design Solutions’ involvement in transit goes well beneath the surface.
Employees are involved in their neighborhood-specific conversation that promote workable solutions to transit, connectivity, and infrastructure. Employees are encouraged to volunteer and support transit-based task forces, organizations (Walk Bike Nashville, League of American Bicyclists, Citizens for Greater Mobility), and/or initiatives to elevate overall awareness of mass transit and a complete streets approach.
To promote alternative transportation modes, Barge Design Solutions’ Nashville office is a Bicycle Friendly Business (Silver), certified by the League of American Bicyclists. The corporate office encourages bicycling as an easy option for transportation and provides amenities such as bike racks, an on-site wellness facility, and shower/locker rooms. It is the company’s belief that alternative modes decrease a person’s carbon footprint, reduces healthcare costs, and provides a more significant connection with the Nashville community.
Barge Design Solutions believes Nashville’s fullest potential lies behind a cohesive, community-centric transit solution. The company was an active partner in the 2018 transit campaign, not only engaging their own employees in learning about the plan but hosting educational events on transit that were open to the community.
