Rhodes Jordan Park

The Challenge

The renovation of Rhodes Jordan Park included new facilities and significant upgrades to a 163- acre regional park located in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The Gwinnett County Parks and Recreation Department wanted to improve Rhodes Jordan Park, providing the community more spaces to relax and play. The park is focused around a lake and is bordered by wooded areas that the City of Lawrenceville wanted to incorporate into the design.

The Solution

Barge Design Solutions developed construction documents for a new three-field soccer complex, alternative synthetic turf multi-purpose fields, two-court basketball facility, a tournament horseshoe facility, and two badminton courts. Other upgrades included a 2.1-mile multipurpose trail and boardwalk that follows the park’s lake edge and beyond to various wooded areas of the park. An existing playground was renovated to incorporate the lake trail, and a new waterfront promenade and group picnic area was created by a new seawall.

Results

The park experienced a resurgence in users due to its design and new facilities. A broad spectrum of park elements provided a diverse experience that creates a dynamic and safe amenity for the community.

The Barge Factor

Barge Design Solutions led the multi-disciplined team to produce a site plan that was design-driven, resulting in a bold statement focused on the park’s central lake.
